Developed as a way to explain the events that are unforseen or occur by chance and those circustances that are not essential to the nature of something as well as define the unexpected that can result in damage or harm, Accident as a noun has served well. Almost from its initial conception humankind, through trial nad error, has attempted to eliminate the need to have such a word. Careful observation of the use of novel machines and equipment as well as the way in which humans push safety parameters and mainstream conservative though has provided for both stifling limitations and briliant solutions to many situations and events. But there remains others that are still to be controlled (and there are still others yet unknown) for which the word Accident is required. No matter how much care is used, no matter how safe a situation seems, Accident will still be used to provide the definition for the unexpected, ill-fitted, harmfully spontaneous, non-essential circumstances of life.
Le nom commun accident a été établit pour décrire les événements qui sont imprévisibles ou qui arrivent par chance, les circonstances idépendants à l’éssence même de la chose décrite; accident définit aussi les imprévus qui peuvent mener à des dommages ou êtres nuisibles. Depuis la conception initiale de ce mot, l’être humain a d’une manière ou d’une autre tenté d’éviter d’y avoir recours. Dans ce contexte, une utilisation attentionée d’équipement et de machines innovatrices aini que le souci d’établir des normes de sûretés et la pensée conservatrice nous ont à la fois sujugué à d’étouffantes limitations et offerts de brillantes solutions. Quoiqu’il en soit, il restera toujours des situtations qui sont hors de notre contrôle (et certains de ces situations nous sont encore inconnues) pour lesquelles le mot accident est requis comme descriptif. Même avec la plus grandes diligence et même si une situation peu nous sembler des plus sûre, accident sera toujours employé pour définir ces ciconstances de la vie qui sont imprévues, inopportunes, spontanément néfastes et inessentielles.
